Experience in designing for highly specialized industries, such as cycling and motorbike apparel.
Product and graphic designs that really fit the market, both in style and technology.

"Bicycles? Stiff, light, cheap.... Pick two!"
This sums it up for me with regard to the sports cycle industry. You always try to balance the specs of the product just right to achieve the optimal mix. Because, something has got to give. Quality can mean so many different things and it is a real challenge to break through the conservative barriers and really think out of the 'box'. The cycling industry is a good breeding ground for innovation, but be prepared to come under close scrutiny by the consumer.
However, I do realize that a nice 'package' is a strong feature of the product which can be developed without much compromise. Artwork has therefore taken a very important role in my development of products. Sports products in particular! This section of the site will be online asap.
About me

My name is René Baretta. I've studied Industrial Engineering at the Technical University at Delft. Thanks to my internship at Magura/Rond suspension, I got a foot in the door of the cycling industry. I've started my company [Are-n-Dee] in 2004 with Magura as a client together with a few local Dutch brands, such as Vantuyl. There was a great demand for graphic design for frames and parts.
My passion for sports, and cycling in particular, combined with my background in technology and my graphic style proves to work very well for the sports industry. And instead of developing the product and 'decal' at seperate companies and at different stages, I can take every aspect into account during the whole process to create a product with the best performance and the best look.
At this moment, I'm developing new frames and parts for some of the big brands in the international cycling industry. With even a TdF prologue victory under the belt (Hushovd, thanks a lot!).

21-12-2010 | WMB tests six 29-ers

"The standout bike is the On-One Carbon 29er Race. It looks great, weighs less than 29ers double its price and rides brilliantly." Needless to say that my design in cooperation with On-One is the WMB winner of this 29er test. Another 4 out of 5 star verdict.
Here is a BikeRadar link referring to this test. >>

13-12-2010 | BikeRadar verdict on On-One 456

"A light, stiff, strong but amazingly comfy frame. Good value too." A 4 out of 5 star verdict for my design in contract for On-One. Read the whole review here...>>

22-11-2010 | Identification system of headsets

Finally a system that identifies and organizes all headsets. In the industry we know what we refer to when we talk about "one point five" or "one and one eight, integrated", that is, talking from one bike geek to the other. But it has become quite a confusing array of headsets for most consumers. This standardisation should make ordering a new headset a lot easier. Especially if the bike industry will place this info on a decal on each frame. I, for one, will begin using it asap and will try to convince my cients to do the same. >>

15-04-2010 | On-One 29 carbon under 1kg

One of the first frames to come from the factory. Pre-production, so it will get some grams added to meet all testing standards. I've designed this frame with all kinds of features, like BB92, postmount disc on the chain stay, direct mount FD for Shimano and SRAM. Considering those specs, the achieved weight is amazing. >>

01-03-2010 | Nathan O'Neill on PRO Missile bars

Eight-time Australian time trial champion Nathan O'Neill went to the wind tunnel facility at Colorado Premier Training to test out equipment and clothing. This also gave the opportunity to see if there is still something to gain with his time trial position. Apparently the only decision he had to make regarding his TT-bars was to go with straight or S-bend extensions on his PRO Missile. >>

11-02-2010 | Boonen wins again in Qatar

After winning the 3rd stage of the Tour of Qatar in a very dominating sprint, Boonen repeated this feat in stage 5.
A dangerous 14-man group (with Fabian Cancellara working hard in the front) was ahead. Boonen was with them, but left the group, saving his energy for a possible sprint. This proved to be the right move, since Boonen's teammates could chase down the 14 riders and a sprint was eminent. Theo Bos was first to start the sprint, but with a heavy headwind, Bos faded and Boonen came around and started his own sprint with success. >>

28-01-2010 | On-One 29er

26-01-2010 | Quick Step in Tour Down Under

"Eddy Merckx is supplying Quick Step with bikes in 2010 after Specialized moved to Astana, following Trek's departure to Radioshack". Take a look at the wheels ;]
Here is another one... >>
